Have you tried a rubbing to see if you can read it any better that way? Just grab some paper and a pencil and maybe some letters or design will pop better? Might not but it's worth a try.

wletson, Mine is just like the one in the second photo, same paint and colors also, just not rusty on the outside as that one is.
