I would gladly volunteer to moderate, with the sole intent of doing nothing but canning the spam we're getting by the truck load now. I just want to have the sweet feeling of hitting the delete post button on these fools. It's going to wind up killing the forum.

I would happily send the mods funds via PayPal for spam -blocking software for the forum. I use Kaspersky which defeats every kind of virus, popup, spam, etc.,; however, whatever you mods want is fine with me if it will stop this crap!

Schag will probably respond to your suggestions. Even though I was the original person asked to be a moderator by Old House who originally owned this site, I never got all the Admin rights. Schag is the only active moderator who has all the Admin rights & he says he has no way to add others or give me the missing rights. I can delete spam messages but can't block the poster which is what's needed.

At a minimum he should turn off the ability for new members to join until this problem gets resolved. That's the simplest way and allows us to continue as normally.

Speaking as my experience admin-ing a phpBB installation, commercial software such as Kaspersky won't help. There are mechanisms built into phpBB to deter spammers, and there are various plugins (free of charge) that can be installed. However, many of the options require intervention by someone with access to the server, which it sounds like none of the admins have. In the case of an absentee site owner (who owns this site, anyways?), there is only so much that any of the admins or moderators can do.
