Hello, Old House community,

Happy to report that we've successfully upgraded the forums to combat the growing SPAM problem -- so far so good. If you do happen to come across any spam please post here to let us know, I will checking regularly.

Thank you for your patience!

Hi Jade,

I did see the posts you were alluding to, and deleted them and banned the users. Unfortunately these are people (not spambots) registering with new names and posting links to their company, e.g. the recent spammers solidwoodkitchen.co.uk, so there is not much I can do about it besides trying to stay on top of the deleting and banning.

Thanks!

i think we need to form a national committee of mental health physicians to study the people who choose to invest much of their time disseminating spam...there must be a pill for the illness...

thank you, admin, for staying on top of this...

I'm seeing a bunch of spam on the boards.
This is exactly the type of spammer that I had to deal with every day, and the reason I'm not doing it anymore.
An admin has to check the boards several times every day to keep on top of it.
There used to be a way to ban by IP, but that hasn't worked in a couple of years.
That was the best way to control the spam, by banning the entire IP range.

I've been warning, deleting and banning the users posting spam... I appreciate those who have helped by flagging the spam. Thanks!

Don't warn...just delete and deactivate the account.
That way they can't get back in with the same email address either.

Bleh, I'm tired of hitting the alert button on all these folks advertising London kitchens. My typing fingers are done for the night.

Too bad the spam got so bad. Some of us have been spending time at the new community for folks with a love of old houses at wavyglass.org

The forum might have been upgraded, but it didn't solve the spam problem. I kept hanging in there...not wanting to give up on an old "friend." I kept clicking the alert button to the admin after the upgrade, but it hasn't slowed down. There are just too many and they keep on coming. I am frustrated and fed up with the new spam that shows up daily in multiples. Sayonara OHW.

Why care now??? When months & months went by, with all of us regular visitors & contributors complained over & over, no one cared!!! Schag did his best, yet you ignored him too.

This is a real shame. The site owners should be ashamed. But they aren't. They simply don't care.
This site has been ruined by spam. All regular forum members have moved to http://www.thehistoricdistrict.org/
