Location forums
I was thinking that it would be cool to have a couple of "Hangout"-type forums, that were location specific. You could break it down into maybe time zones, or chunks of states, or regions however you like. It'd give people the opportunity to make more local connections. i know that people usually get hooked up somehow over time. I, for example, was lucky enough to find out about a local Preservation Society from a member (now their president) who is on this forum (Yes, that's you, Iowa4Square). I'd still be in the dark about that was it not for this forum!
Anyway, who's with me on this!?!?!?

I'm totally behind something to allow folks to connect by location or region, but I'm not sure that a location-specific forum would have a lot of activity beyond "hi, I'm from _______".
What we could start with is just a thread that asks everyone (everyone who is willing to share that info, anyway) to post their country, region within that country, state or province, and city or general part of the state/province. We could ask to have it made into a sticky in the hangout forum, and have the opening post in that thread give instructions on how to use the search feature to find folks who listed "mid atlantic" or "new england" or "british columbia" etc.
Just another idea to ponder...

cool, we can use this map to mark where we are...
http://mapservices.org/myguestmap/map/oldhouseweb
just zoom into your town, or even down to your actual street address, if you so desire. then click on the map and Enter your OldHouseForum Name and a message. Maybe you want to enter your Forum name as the "name" and the message can be your actual first name.... whatever...
