Hello

Post by SavannahDan »

This is my first post. Last summer I bought a colonial house in middle Georgia as a retirement home. We will move into it in about 5 years. It was built in 1778 by Jacob Burkhalter. He was the son of German speaking immigrants from Switzerland who settled in the southern part of Savannah, Georgia in a little hamlet called Vernonburg, which is about 3 miles from where I currently live.

It is a pier and beam house and has some issues with the piers and the beam that runs along the front of the house. I am currently looking for a structural engineer to do an evaluation and develop a repair plan. If any of you know a good one in the SE please let me know.

If you would like to see what the house looks like, or looked like about a month after we bought it, do a search on YouTube for 'Jacob Burkhalter Warrenton, Ga.'
