Dating Greek Revival
Hi folks,
Well, I've read all over this forum and the net looking for help trying to determine when my house was built and I still need help.
County Records seem to peter out in the early part of the 1900's.
We have what appears to be a greek revival and the local historical society guy figures it was built mid-1800's or so.
A picture of the front can be seen here:

Interior and exterior links aren't working yet, but this is a pretty good shot of the front. The things that seem like the best clues to me are:
1) Plaster walls with wooden corner beads - this mimics a house in town dated to 1830 or so. Lath is sawed.
2) Windows are wavy, those that haven't been replaced
3) Most windows are 2 over 2.
4) windows have the little spring loaded catch to hold them up - no weights
5) House was plumbed and had electric installed *well* after it was built
6) Floor beams and joists are sawed with look like circular marks
The house has a barn built with pegged post and beam construction. The attic roof actually runs out over the barn roof and you can see the old wooden shingles of the barn roof - apparently the barn pre-dates the house, or at least part of the house.
Any thoughts would be appreciated ...

Hi Al,
From your description your house may be a turn of the century Greek Revival 1900 or later. I agree that your barn appears older, again from your description. I can't see your picture either; the web page comes up without it. If you can drop your photos into Photobucket and follow the directions at the top of the General Issues section we should be able to see them and perhaps give you a better idea of age! Don

It certainly is. Silly me ... I never looked at the site in IE, which for some reason is not loading that image.
While I go figure that one out, I'll go follow the advice in another post about dropping the photos into some kind of photobucket gizmo ... (I have several on which I dropped the resolution)
Thanks for grabbing it.
