A couple of questions have come up when refinishing wide pine floors in a Vermont farmhouse circa 1800.
1. I am using a soy based paint stripper to remove the lead paint safely. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to remove the paint stripper oily residue? Is there a degreaser that works better than plain soap and water? If I let the oily paint stripper residue soak in will I ever get it out?
2. There are 2 layers of wide pine flooring. I am curious to remove the top layer in the upstairs and refinish the original flooring. However, I have convinced myself this is not a good idea as the extra wood may be adding some structural integrity to an already sagging floor. thoughts?
