Old house doorbell wiring

Hey, I own an old Sears Carlin and the doorbell is powered by a vintage tri volt (i think Jefferson Electric but hard to tell everything rubbed off) transformer. The side doorbell works and I can follow all the wiring from the side doorbell to the transformer and to the bell but the front doorbell doesn't work. I just did some digging in the basement and found a few dangling wires that appear to connect to the front doorbell but aren't connected to anything. Anyone know anything about doorbell wiring that might be able to explain how I could hook these back up?
