Interior Small Pocket Door

Hi. My husband and I just purchased a home built in 1937 and we love all of the character. There is a small pocket door (probably about 4 feet tall) inside the master bedroom closet that adjoins the closet in a second bedroom. What would be the purpose of such a door?
