"OLD-FASHIONED" CABINET IRONING BOARD
I have a 1947 California beach-style home and am having great difficulty finding some place where I can get a "new" ironing board and some minor hardware for the pedestal. The cabinet's in great shape and the pedestal platform (in place) says "LH Eubank & Son Inglewood, CA" and "Patent 2174363." But I can't find a replacement ironing board or the piece which will keep the pedestal and ironing board in the horizontal position. Does anyone have a source for such items?
I've tracked down LH Eubank & Son. Their patent was in 1939 and the company is apparently defunct.

I don't have any real answers for you, but here's a link to a company (local to me) that does wall-mount boards. Maybe they can help. http://ironaway.com/

I know it's been over two years since your post, but are you still looking for a replacement ironing board and metal base? I just removed one from my house in a remodel. It matches your description exactly and the board and hardware are in excellent condition.

If he is not, I may be. I am in NJ, where are you?

gjdevlin - I would also be very interested in the ironing board and metal base that you removed as part of your remodel!
Please let me know if you're still out there and you still have the item(s) you've described; it sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for!
Thanks.

I just removed one of these in a renovation. The metal base is in excellent condition. The board also.
I also located a downloadable of the original patent application, interesting stuff.
The board may or may not be original. The house I'm working on was built by a master carpenter sometime in the late 40's or early 50's, and based on what else I've discovered about his talents he may well have made the board.
In any event, it looks very good and works excellently.
I have no idea what it might be worth, but I'm willing to look at offers.
Also with the assembly is the black spring steel support that holds the board in the horizontal position.

My board was installed between 1944 and 1952. the 3 1/2 in depth, 11 7/8 ths width and 55 inch height (inside measurements ) allowed it to be installed between studs. the 3/8 ths door is plywood with a 7x10 in. os. measure pure aluminum grill with 3/16s holes on 1 1/8 ctr horz and 3/4 in ctrs. vert. mounted 2 in. from the bottom to allow the heat from the iron placed on the gal. steel holder mounted at the bottom of the cabinet ( 2 1/2 H, 8 w 3 1/2 deep) to escape. the 5/16 steel pivoting base is 14 in H and is mounted in 5/16ths holes 1/2 in up from the bottom of the cabinet and 9/16ths in from the front. the (origional) board is a 5 ply 3/4 in plywood. It still functions well.

Wow, people still iron?? I've always hated it. The only board we own actually came from hubby's bachelor apartment. If it ain't wash & wear then it gets dry cleaned

Tee hee. We have 4 bedrooms in our house upstairs - 2 big, 1 small but doable, 1 tiny (11X7) and not doable at all because of how the radiator and closet door are positioned. We found a piece of paper downstairs listing how the people 2 owners ago had the breakers or fuses laid out (not for the current breaker box) and it listed what they used the rooms for, too.aed wrote:Wow, people still iron?? I'm like, ironing room???
I have a Target ironing board I use for emergencies or if I am sewing (rare, these days) ... but mostly my ironing method is to grab it out of the dryer quickly.
