The striped maple has attractive green bark marked with white stripes when young. It grows in shade or partial shade and in a moist rich soil. The growth rate is moderately slow and the tree is hard to transplant. Striped maple reaches a height of 40 feet and spreads 15 to 25 feet. The tree has a clear yellow fall color.
One cultivar is listed; 'erythrocladum'--has red twigs during the winter.
