Floss flower has fluffy looking flowers and can be used for edging or in containers. The taller cultivars may be used as cut flowers. Other uses are in rock gardens or as a winter house plant. Ageratum grows in well drained, medium rich soil and does not tolerate dryness. Provide full sun or partial shade and remove the old flowers to promote continuous blooming. Floss flower dies at the first frost. Plants are 6 to 12 inches tall depending on cultivar.

Seed can be planted inside or in the garden. Do not cover ageratum seed as light is needed for germination. Germination occurs in 5 to 10 days at temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees. Pinch seedlings to encourage branching. Plant ageratum 10 to 12 inches apart.
