Buddleia davidii--Butterfly Bush
A large shrub valued for its summer flowers. The flower color varies with the cultivar with flowering occuring from summer to fall. In northern climates the shrub may be killed to ground level in the winter. The fragrant flowers attract butterflies, hence the common name. This is an easy to grow plant that should be pruned in the spring as the 6- to 30-inch flower clusters are borne on new growth. Some catalogs will only list cultivars by flower color.
Cultivars include: 'Petite Plum' - purple flowers produced on a plant about 3 feet tall.
