Chestnut -- Harvesting

By The Old House Web
When chestnuts fall from the tree, collect the burs and lay out on screens or boards until they split into several sections. Discard the bur and save the nut inside.

The soft nuts should be cured for two weeks on screens, with warm circulating air. Avoid placing the nut in an open garage that may invite squirrel pirates. Skins will be hard when cured and nuts firm.
