Cistus Crispus--Rock Rose

Rock rose is a moderately hardy perennial so is included with the annuals. The plant grows in most well drained soils. The best light exposure is full sun. The plant grows two to three feet high and is spaced three to five feet apart. New plants flower best so old plants are discarded even if they repeatedly survive several winters. The plant requires regular pruning to keep it healthy. The flowers are one and one half inches in diameter and only last one day.

The seed is started in April in sifted sandy soil. When seedlings are one inch high they are put in three inch pots. Three to four inch cuttings, taken in summer may be used for propagation.
