Winter aconite is one of the first flowers to bloom in spring. These low plants have yellow flowers and like a well drained soil. If the soil dries out the plants may die out. Some shade in summer is desirable. The tubers are planted in summer or autumn. Shriveled tubers can be plumped up by putting them in moist sand or peat moss 2 days before planting. The plants grow 6 inches high and are planted 3 inches deep and 6 inches apart. The tubers multiply rapidly. They are divided when dormant.
