Iris cristata--Crested Iris
Iris cristata--Crested Iris
Crested iris is a low growing, spreading plant, reaching a height of 4 and a half inches. The plant may be used in rock gardens or naturalized plantings. The flowers are blue with a yellow crest but varieties have other flower colors. Flowering is early, usually in April, weather permitting. Grow the plant in a partially shaded site with moist soil. If grown in full sun the soil must be moist. Division is done after flowering or remove new growth from the edge of large clumps to propagate a few plants.
