Bells of Ireland has green bracts which surround rather inconspicuous flowers. They need well drained, moderately fertile soil. The plants grow two to three feet tall and may be dried.
The seed is usually planted directly into the garden. Prechilling the seed for five days at 50 degrees improves germination. The seed germinates in 25 to 35 days at 55 degrees. Light is necessary for good germination. The seedlings are difficult to transplant.
