Sword ferns are hard to grow. They like medium light intensity protection from strong sunshine. Keep the soil evenly moist at all times. Use a weak liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks while plants are actively growing. Ideal temperatures are between 55 and 70 degrees but always below 75 degrees. Low humidity may cause brown leaves in winter. Repotting is done in February or March. Avoid using strong pesticides or fertilizers. Brown growths, lined up in rows on the bottom of the fronds, are reproductive structures, not insects or diseases.
Propagation is by division in spring or by runners.
