Ironwood is hard wooded, shade tolerant, and grows in most soils. The tree grows 50 feet tall and spreads 25 to 30 feet. The root system is shallow and the growth rate is very slow. Ironwood tolerates pruning, is hard to transplant, and has a yellow fall color.
