Tree Peony is shrub-like as it reaches a height of 3 to 5 feet. The large flowers are in shades of yellow, white, pink and red. The plants grow in ordinary garden soil with exposure to sun or partial shade. The flowers may be single or double and are produced in May or June. Plant the graft union 3 to 6 inches below soil level. Remove dead stems as they are seen.

Propagation is by grafting, air layering or division. The first two methods are difficult, slow, and uncertain for most gardeners. Division can only be done to large plants with many branches on which the scion formed roots.
