Common bald cypress looks like an evergreen but is actually deciduous so drops its leaves in the fall. The tree grows from 120 to 150 feet tall and spreads 12 to 20 feet. The growth habit is narrow while young but becomes broader as the plant ages. Common bald cypress is intolerant of shade when young and can be used near water. The tree has a moderate growth rate and tolerates most soils if they do not dry out.
Common bald cypress has few cultivars; 'Pendens'-- pendulous branches.
