Nasturtium leaves may be used in salads. Grow it in full sun and sandy soil, although most soils are tolerated. Flowering is best if plants are given a high phosphorous fertilizer. Use of high nitrogen fertilizers result in leafy plants with little bloom. The plants grow 12 inches high and are spaced eight to twelve inches apart.

Seedlings do not transplant easily so seed is planted directly into the garden. The seed germinates in 7 to 12 days at 65 degrees. Cover the seeds completely as they need darkness to germinate.
