This two-part adhesive makes a nearly bullet-proof bond between a variety of porous and semi-porous materials. According to the manufacturer, Weldwood Resorcinol Glue is designed for ?severe service applications,? and that once cured it is impervious to salt or fresh water immersion, temperature extremes, oils and grease and solvents. It consists of a liquid resin and a powdered catalyst.
Protective clothing, gloves and facial protection are recommended by the manufacturer for mixing and applying the glue. Resorcinol glue has a long working life (four hours at 70 degrees F.) and a long open time (30 minutes at the same temperature). It takes between 8 and 10 hours to set. One downside is the color?cured glue is purple. In November 2004, enough catalyst and resin to make a quart of glue was available for less than $20.
