Countertop Materials: Slate-look countertops

Veins and fissures are striking features of slate. Formica has imitated the look of the ancient rock in its Madras Indian Slate synthetic laminate countertop.

Part of the company's new Honed Finish Collection, it has a low-sheen satin finish, with subtle variations that replicate the look of real stone. The Madras Slate is one of four colors in this line. Installed price ranges from $25 - 50 per linear foot (October 2004), about a quarter of the price of the real thing.
