From the company that produces Waterford Irish Stoves, comes the Emerald gas insert. Designed to work in any existing fireplace, the gas insert produces up to 38,000 BTUs at 82% efficiency, which should be enough to heat up to 2,000 square feet.
The insert also can be installed as a gas fireplace in new construction or a renovation. The Emerald has a glass-front and is available in four colors - matte black, green, brown and blush stone. Optional accessories include a thermostat and a remote control. A variable-speed blower is standard.
The insert weighs 360 lb. In October 2004, the Emerald cost between $2,300 and $2,600, depending on the color.
