Hand Tools: Leather grip claw hammer

Reviewed by:

Laminated leather washers that are pressed and riveted onto the steel shank of this 16-oz. claw hammer make for a comfortable grip. An ideal general purpose hammer, the Estwing E16C is a little light for driving big nails, but just right for installing trim, hanging shingles and nailing up window and door casing.

It's double lacquered and will last for many years. The hammer is one piece of forged tool steel so the head won't loosen over time. Curved claws lever out nails smoothly. The hammer is 12-1/2" long overall. In December 2004, the E16C was available for about $25.
