It may look like an storage shed sitting in the yard, but this small structure is actually a detached wood-burning furnace that will supply your home's heating needs. The firebox inside this furnace is surrounded by a water jacket which acts as a heat exchanger.

Heated water is conveyed via insulated, underground pipes to your home, where it provides hot air for forced air systems or heated water for hydronic systems.

As with conventional furnaces, the heat is controlled thermostatically. The furnace comes with a 25-year warranty and prices start at $3,155.
