Building a kitchen that's in keeping with a period house poses a some design dilemmas. For example, how do you blend in modern appliances in a house that was built a century before home electrical wiring existed? One way is to work with a custom cabinetmaker.
The folks at Appleton Woodworking have a number of innovative ideas for blending new with old, like the refrigerator enclosure pictured here. The company will custom finish cabinetry to blend with original woodwork. For example, in one home cabinetry was finished with four coats of tinted shellac to match the 100-year-old southern pine original to the house.
Company limits work to New England area.
