Outdoor Thermometers: Heating Up

Reviewed by:
Rosemary Thornton
Drawing on artisanry from the 15th Century, this Spanish thermometer is handmade using the "Cuerda Seca" technique.

The glaze is applied to the tile with a syringe and when fired, the glaze beads up giving the tile depth and boldness. Developed in Persia, Cuerda Seca became widely practiced in Spain and eventually appeared in California.

This thermometer displays Celsius and Fahrenheit and includes a hanger for wall mounts.
