Pancake-style air compressors are smaller and somewhat lighter than other versions, making them easier to lug from job to job around the house. This Campbell Hausfeld model WL5043 has a 4-gallon capacity and a maximum pressure of 125 psi.

It's big enough to run framing as well as finish nailers. It has a 1-1/2 horsepower motor that runs on standard household current (it draws 13 amps) and weighs 58 lb. Although not exactly light, the compressor has an integral handle that makes moving it relatively painless. An oil-free design means less maintenance. In September 2004, this model sold for about $242.
