Rain Barrels: Waste Not, Want Not

Reviewed by:

Generations ago, householders captured and saved rain water for washing because it was soft, pure and best of all -- free.

This modern-day rain barrel is made with 1/4" polyethelyne plastic and tolerates heat and cold. It holds 54 gallons and has an adapter for use with a garden hose (in addition to the spigot).

The intake is screened (to keep out the bugs) and it comes with a six foot overflow hose.

  • Rain water barrel is $165 (April 2006).
  • Dimensions: 36" tall and 23" diameter.
