Majestic slate roofing tiles look and feel like natural stone, but are manufactured from post-industrial waste rubber and plastic, making them both lightweight and affordable.

Like real slate, these synthetic tiles have a long life -- 50 years or more.EcoStar modified its technology from "starloy," a product that was developed for sea dock walkways 20 years ago to produce the synthetic slate tiles.The tiles have been made for 10 years, and carry a 50-year warranty against natural damage, including hail and winds. The company offers three lines of synthetic slate:

• Majestic Colonial for a New England look
• Majestic Designer with beaver tail, chisel point or beveled edges.
