The Fein Turbo IV 1200-watt vacuum is designed for industrial use but will also find a special place in the old-house owner's heart.

The 18-gallon canister is stainless steel and the motor has bypass cooling, which means that if something gets stuck in the hose or filter, the obstruction will not overheat the motor. It comes equipped with a 5 micron cloth bag filter but can be upgraded to a .3 micron HEPA filter. (A human hair is 100 microns wide.) Price is $795 (August 2004).
