Awning windows hinge at the top and open from the bottom, allowing them to be used for ventilation even in a light rain. Made from Western pine, with pine interiors, the exterior is protected by aluminum cladding .050" thick and available in 22 colors.
Awning windows have roto-style handles that operate easily and make a weather-tight seal when the sash is pulled tight to the frame. Kolbe & Kolbe awning windows are available in sizes from 1'8" to 3' tall and 3' wide. They can be stacked with other fixed or movable windows in a variety of configurations.
Screens mounted on the window interior are standard. A variety of glazing options are available. In November 2004, a 1'8" x 3' awning cost about $275.
