Re: 16" standing seam metal roof -Will I be sorry??

Thanks for the re-sizing, avjudge. Computer illiterate here. We only get about 40-50" of snow in a typical winter, so gutters don't tend to be a problem. I guess I'll go ahead with the 16" profile and post pics after it's done. I'm still not sure about color of the roof though. Should I go dark grey...

Re: 16" standing seam metal roof -Will I be sorry??

rehabbingisgreen - It currently has aluminum siding, an enclosed porch, etc. The roof would be the first step in "restoring" the exterior. Original roof was cedar shake but I can't find a contractor who is confident about the longevity of cedar (due to inexperience with the product, I'm sure) which ...

Re: 16" standing seam metal roof -Will I be sorry??

Thanks for the info Casey. The machine the roofer has produces a snap lock profile on site so it probably won't have the good old fashioned dimensions you spoke of. Unfortunately, metal roofs are few and far between up here so it's hard to find contractors.

16" standing seam metal roof -Will I be sorry??

Hi all: Will 16" standing seam look "industrial" on my 1900 folk Victorian?? Not many metal roofs here in Michigan. I have found a good contractor but his machine produces 16" profiles. He could order 12" but it would be much more expensive. Will I be sorry if I go with 16"???? Any color suggestions...

Re: siding

Yes - you need to face nail wood siding or bad things will happen. Cement board is stable enough but wood will cup.

Heat gun

I have the same problem and a heat gun does help to scrape up the stubborn spots before washing and sanding.

My Home

[img][/img] This is my house around 1900 - the landscaping looks very new! It's definitely not as pretty now with an enclosed front porch, aluminum siding and asphalt roof. I'll post a pic of that soon. [img][img]http:...

Use Detergent!

I wouldnt recommend the no detergent method. Dirt can removed through mechanical action that way, but detergents are meant to reduce the surface tension thereby allowing the soils to wash away or release more easily from the surface being cleaned. Not using a detergent will result in a greater redep...
