Re: What kind of house is this?

You have something most of us don't have...proof of what it was originally. Most of us have to guess and speculate. If you want to recreate some of the features, you know exactly what to do and what it looked like, right down to the floor plan and where the piano is supposed to go! :)

Re: What kind of house is this?

I can only guess and base some of my opinions on what I know about my own house. My house was built in 1913. It was "near" town, but not in the city limits when it was built. It is possible your home was built without a bathroom, especially since it was out in the country. My house was built without...

Re: Paint or Wall Paper?

Thanks. My husband and I have debated whether to do the sheetrock or not. You're correct about the similarity in construction. However, I have sheetrock in two of the bedrooms (installed sometime in the early 60's) and it has not had a problem with cracking in all that time. We did get a few small c...

Re: Paint or Wall Paper?

Hi BigBill...in the rooms you did with luann covered with wallpaper vs sheetrock, do you think there is a difference in sound proofing or insulating properties? I mean can you easily tell any difference?

Re: What's happened to our board?

The owners could solve this problem with a couple of mouseclicks, it's not that hard to manage permissions. That may be true, but unfortunately, that only works if the owners are responsive to the moderators who have tried to contact them about the spammer problem. It doesn't seem that the owners w...

That's so funny! I have a photo that looks just like that from when my husband dug up and replaced about 180 feet of sewer line in the yard!

That's why my yard looked like Ninja Gophers had arrived within the first week of having the metal detector!

Re: look what I dug up in my yard!

The privy is the only structure not drawn on my map and I don't know the exact location of it. All I know about it is that it is somewhere on the neighbor's 5 acres. I could probably locate the filled in well. It's on the drawing my cousin made, plus I've been given directions to it by several relat...

Re: look what I dug up in my yard!

I find stuff in the yard every time I put a shovel, hoe, or rake to it. It's kind of weird because I would expect to find a concentrated trash heap, but it seems to be scattered everywhere! I have collected and saved all the broken bits of pottery, china and glass, thinking someday I will make a mos...
