Rewring Thermostat

Postby Infogeek on Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:52 pm

I have an old Honeywell thermostat. Took it apart; it had 2 terminals with a #4 between them, one green wire and one white wire. Terminals had no other labeling. The new thermostat has different letters; the installation manual has has 2 terminals alternatively labeled #4, but colors say yellow and white, not green and white. I assume the white goes to white, but does the green then go to the second alternatively labeled 4, or to the green?

I suppose I can hook it up and turn it on and see if it works.

Old model: Honeywell T87F 2873; New model Honeywell RTH2300B. There was a red wire but it was not connected to anything.

Nothing can ever be labeled properly to make things easy, can it? Sigh...

Never mind. When all else fails, follow the wires to the furnace. DOH! All hooked up and working now.
