Is it way better than Explorer? My son, who is going for computer science at college said something about Firefox to me I think.

I'll second Firefox over IE. Like Windows in general, IE has gotten progressively slower and more bloated with each release. Firefox is quicker, more secure and because it's open source there are tons of third-party plugins for it.

The only time I use IE these days is to check to see how it breaks my code.

Hide My ISP Address?

Postby My4t2de on Fri Feb 15, 2008 2:17 pm

I want to hide my IP addy at a couple of sites and my firewall just doesn't do it. I hate how it not only tells the state and nearby city, but the server I use and my OS.
I know one person who's addy changes to a different place all over the world every time she posts.

How is this done?

Either by using different ISPs or a proxy server designed to scatter requests among several other proxy servers. A word of warning about the latter, though. As might be expected, DHS takes a keen interest in the traffic to and from anonymizing proxy servers.

How do you use a different ISP? Is a proxy server something you pay for? See, I don't know nuttin about this stuff.
As far as DHS, they're not interested in me, I asked already!

To your first question, you'd need to have multiple providers, which is of course expensive. Usually this is done via an anonymous proxy service like youhide.com or proxify.com

Here's a Wikipedia description of what a proxy server does:

I've got a techie acquaintance whose networking company consults for the spooks and who won't tell me what they can and can't do beyond cryptic comments like, "It's called Total Information Awareness, dood. Like totally".

Thumb/Flash/USB Drives

Postby My4t2de on Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:32 pm

I need more storage. I'm currently usinga 4Gb Verbatim U3 Smart Drive with Pass-2-Go installed.
I like that it asks for a password upon plugging in so no data can be accessed and asks for a second password when initializing the Pass-2-Go (Roboform). I like that once I pull it out of the machine, it leaves no trace of my activity.
I want one that does the same thing- no access to the any of the drive without password.

What's good out there that does this?
