The following recipe can be used as a substitute for commercial houseplant fertilizer:

1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt peter 1 teaspoon epsom salts 1/2 teaspoon household ammonia 1 gallon of tepid water

Mix and dissolve first four items into water.
