Sargent cherry is round headed, grows 80 feet tall, and has bronze colored young foliage. The single, pink, flowers are borne in April or May. The one and a half inch flowers are borne 2 to 6 per cluster. The fruit are round and black and the fall color is red.

Sargent cherry has few cultivars; 'Columnaris'-- narrower, more upright growth.
