Tilia americana--Basswood, American Linden

Basswood grows 120 feet tall and can spread to 60 feet. The tree has a moderately rapid growth rate and grows in sun or partial shade. The best soil would be moist, rich and well drained. Basswood will transplant easily when young. The tan blossoms are ornamental when numerous.

Basswood has few cultivars; 'Fastigiata'--pyramidal shape.
